Runic put out this trailer for Gamescom, touting how they listened to the fans when they decided to focus on cooperative play for Torchlight 2 the sequel to the Steam sale mega-hit Torchlight. The most interesting piece of info to come out about Torchlight 2 is the retirement system, which allows you to retire a high level character, and have him give special bonuses to your new character.
Sony’s been showing off a lot of stuff at Gamescom this week. They announced Ratchet & Clank All 4 One, a four player co-op action game, and knowing Insomniac it’s sure to be boring and sell horribly. Here’s the trailer:
Sony showed off one of their Move titles, The Fight, at Gamescom this week. This trailer features Danny Trejo, better known as Machete. The game isn’t looking to hot right now hopefully Sony can come up with something a bit more robust for the core gamer by the time the Move is released.
It seems Bioware isn’t changing strategies when it comes to advertising Dragon Age games. Present a God of War style we’re so hardcore attitude, and then cover it in blood. Dissappointing that they continue to treat the most traditional franchise they have, and the fans of classic western style RPG’s with so little respect.
Sony released a Multiplayer trailer for Gamescom this week. Clearly they’re pleadingly trying to win over the Call Of Duty crowd with their “that’s mine” “nice” teamspeak garbage. In my day you talked to people using your keyboard, and you had to stand still in a safe place while doing it too. Damn kids and their gimped console aiming.
Reakktor put out a new Black Prophecy trailer for Gamescom. Black Prophecy, aka FrEve Online, is the free to play space sim MMo with real-time combat. It doesn’t look like that huge of a graphical leap over EVE graphically, though the ship designs do seem to have a fair bit more detail, and polish.
Ubisoft today announced Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon for Wii. This isn’t a traditional Ghost Recon game of course Ubisoft would never do that for Wii, it’s an on rails Ghost Recon game. The good news is it supports co-op, and being in third person is at least a small change-up for the oversaturated Wii rail shooter genre, and from the video here it does seem like they’re going for a proper arcadey feel rather than a perhaps to methodically paced take like some of the still fun Resident Evil rail shooters went with.
In jarring contrast to the awful Gun Loco trailer, IGN has also released the Epic Mickey opening cinematic. It shows how the wasteland came to be, and how Mickey ends up there. This Wii exclusive is definitely looking to scratch that Mickey nostalgia itch as they show time passing with scenes from Mickey’s classic films/shorts.
Square in their ongoing attempts to appeal to the western market have announced Gun Loco. A more grotesque take on Twisted Metal character designs, a Manhunt like setting and premise, and some Mirror’s Edge jumping and sliding all combine in what looks to be a truly horrible game. IGN has the awful trailer here. The game is currently an Xbox 360 exclusive, oh joy.
ArenaNet put up their MMO Manifesto trailer for Guild Wars 2 here. This game is truly setting itself apart from the crowd with it’s character designs, and atypical environment design. The world is far less flat than your average WoW clone or World of Warcraft itself for that matter.Plus that whole no monthly fee thing is a nice plus.
